A Brief Word on the Highest Praise

Do you know what the highest praise is in the Judeo-Christian tradition?  It is the word hallelujah!  The real question is this:  WHY is hallelujah the highest praise?  Taking a look at it’s meaning may offer us some insight.

The word hallelujah is actually derived from the word Alleluia, which literally means:

Praise ye YAH
Praise ye Jah
Praise ye the LORD

The word appears 24 times, mainly in the Psalms, in the Old Testament and 4 times in the New Testament

Choose This Day

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods.
Joshua 24:16

Towards the end of Joshua’s life on earth, he presented Israel with an ultimatum:  serve Jehovah or serve the gods of those whom they conquered.  Joshua vowed to serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15).  This crossroad in the journey to inheriting the Promised Land is one many encounter in their walk with God.  In the New Testament, Jesus

A Loving Walk

And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.
2 John 1:6a

Love is not solely about telling others how much you love them.  It is not about showing acts of kindness with the expectation of having it reciprocated.  Love is the first and greatest commandment of God, and it ultimately boils down to OBEDIENCE.

If we look to King Saul in the Old Testament, we find him giving lip service regarding his love for God to

Power in His Name

No weapon formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.
Isaiah 54:17

If you are a child of God, anything that Satan throws at you will FAIL to devour you. The devil is determined to say anything to draw you away from that which God has called you

Obedience Trumps Sacrifice

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice…
1 Samuel 15:23

What is it exactly that allows us into Heaven?  Is it about how many times we must make sacrifices?  Or is it about something as basic as obedience?  But isn’t sacrifice also something basic?

God created all creatures, especially man, for His pleasure.  In order to bring pleasure to the Lord, we must obey Him.  When Saul was offering sacrifices unto the Lord, not obeying His commandments, his

Tune Up Your Temple

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Timothy 2:15

You tune up your car in order for it to run as efficiently as possible.  When you take it in, there is a prescription that the mechanic follows; from changing spark plugs, oil, and filters, it is all done to make your car run better.

Your spirit is not much different from your car

Word is Bond (NEW)

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.
Psalm 111:5

The Scriptures declare that God is not a respector of persons.  What we can take from that is that He is available and accessible to all who believe and fear Him.  The fear the Bible speaks of here is not the kind of fear that you may find in horror stories; it describes a sense of respect not

The Way of the Righteous

For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Psalm 1:6

The Scripture says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.  Because of man’s fatal flaw, we have been set on a road of certain destruction and eternal damnation.  But we can thank God for giving us His Son, Jesus Christ to fix up what Adam messed up back in the Garden
